Sharp images, decent lens, ease of use given the level of sophistication on offer, manageable dimensions, rock solid build, higher than average light sensitivity settings
Launch price overly expensive so shop around, Live View finder costs extra
A broader focal range and a cheaper price would make this non-interchangeable lens compact a potential world-beater. As it is, it's still hot stuff for those who enjoy pointing and shooting, but would like to raise their game at the same time...
Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-LX5 replaces the LX3 as the ultimate enthusiast compact, but at around £400 it’s not cheap. If the LX5’s excellent high ISO performance, great video mode and versatile 24-90mm lens sound attractive, it’s the best compact in town,...

Dislike: The lack of an optical viewfinder puts it at a disadvantage compared with the Nikon P7000 and the Canon G12. And there is no printed instruction manual which, for such a serious camera, is perplexing
Ultra-wide-angle lens with F2.0 aperture; macro mode lets you get extremely close to subject; very fast autofocus and quiet zoom motors; superior video capture and manual video controls; manual controls for aperture, shutter, and focus; very sturdy build
Intelligent Auto mode produces underexposed images; some camera settings are buried deep in menus; limited optical zoom range
The Panasonic Lumix LX5 is not a digital camera for novices, but it offers an insane amount of power for a fixed-lens camera if you're not intimidated by manual controls...
